Last month, Sony announced that it had completed the purchase of Insomniac games. Insomniac is the developer behind many highly successful PlayStation games and series such as the animated platformer Ratchet & Clank and Marvel's Spider-Man.

In buying Insomniac, Sony has not just become the owner of this series, because it means that Sony now owns the Xbox One exclusively Sunset Overdrive as well.

Speaking to the Japanese publication Inside Games, Shohei Yoshida, president of SIE Worldwide Studios, asserts that "SIE owns the rights of past insomniac works" with Sunset Overdrive.

When asked if he was "worried" about what would happen with Sunset Overdrive IP, Yoshida replied, "Insomniac is a powerful developer, so I can only say that I'm looking forward to future titles." SIE President laughed and talked about Marvel's Spider-Man and Stormland, Insomniac's new VR game for Oculus.

Some may be surprised to hear that Sony is not considering making Sunset Overdrive 2. Insomniac said it wants to make Sunset Overdrive a sequel and launch a new game in the series that may sound like an easy throw for participants.

Sony is likely to get Sunset Overdrive fans on Xbox consoles to go to the PlayStation through the exclusive PlayStation 2 Sunset Overdrive comment.

It will also deal a blow to Microsoft, which has been criticized for lack of exclusivity. Although the company tried to address this by buying several studios, such as the developer of Hellblade Ninja Theory and Psychonauts 2 Double Fine, these companies have not yet released any games as part of Microsoft.

Microsoft also has the secret game studio The The Initiative, which hires developers who have worked on Uncharted and God of War, the PlayStation series. However, the first game of this team also seems to be very far due to its employment in many important positions.

However, Sony may worry that they appear to need Microsoft properties, or that they benefit from the work that Microsoft has developed by deploying the first game.

It is purely speculation, but the company may not try to look weak. This kind of situation doesn't really serve the May fans at Sunset Overdrive or Insomniac Games, but for Sony, it's just a business.
