Nightdive Studios is releasing System Shock 2 ... again

Since its original release in 1999, Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios' System Shock 2 has been confined to the PC, a shame because it indirectly produced countless classics like BioShock and Prey, and it ranks directly next to Deus Ex in terms of its impact.

On the industry.
System Shock 2 was re-released in 2013 thanks to the Retro-Resdrector Nightdive Studios software, but only back on the PC.

Fortunately, Nightdive says it is now working on an enhanced version of the sci-fi immersive sim, and maybe our best chance yet to play System Shock 2 on other platforms.

We know very little about the improved System Shock 2 system at this point.

Nightdive briefly announced the game on Twitter and said it was "coming soon", but how the original game will improve and when exactly it arrives is anyone's guess.

It can be as simple as a 4K re-release of a PC, or it can be as ambitious as restarting multiple platforms for one of the best sci-fi games of all time.

This might provoke some fundamentalists, but I won't complain if the enhanced version has made changes to more than just the game's graphics.

System Shock 2 is one of the most immersive sims of all time, but quite frankly, some parts of it have not progressed well especially the often intuitive skill tree.

I see no harm in updating the classics as long as their spirit remains intact, and some minor modifications can make System Shock 2 more accessible to modern players.
