Minecraft sold 176 million copies worldwide, and may be the best-selling game ever, This past week was a big one for Minecraft.
Not only did Mojang and Microsoft commemorate the 10th anniversary of the builder with a special map of the theme park, but the studios also unveiled the free multiplayer reality game, Minecraft Earth.
But most striking of all, in a post on Microsoft's official website about a 10-year celebration, Creative Director Pierce SAXS revealed that Minecraft now sold 176 million copies around the world, which probably meant it was the best-selling game of all time.
"Now, Minecraft has sold more than 176 million copies to date in nearly every country in the world."
This impressive figure pertains to unit sales across its entire lifecycle on every platform, including mobile devices, but people immediately began searching for numbers for other gaming sales to see if this puts Minecraft at the first sale site.
The number in Tetris sales may have increased since then, and as an updated number can not be confirmed now, there is no way to tell if Minecraft outperform Tetris sales figures to be the best-selling game of all time.
Grand Theft Auto V is the only other game that reaches 100 million in sales, with Wii Sports recording at 82 million.
Regardless of whether they are already best-selling, they are still a huge amount of sales and are just going to show that the long-term success of Minecraft does not fade any time soon.
