Samsung opens the Bixby application for third party applications and devices

Samsung will begin allowing application developers to connect Bixby, and hardware companies will be able to build a voice assistant in their products as well.

In the year and a half since the launch of Pixie, Samsung has already brought a helper to phones, refrigerators, televisions, and more, but they all have been Samsung's own devices.

With today's news, other companies will be able to start building it to their own devices too, either as an alternative to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant - or, more likely, as an additional option for users who want to live in the Samsung ecosystem.

Bixby follows Alexa's strategy
Consumers may have an additional reason to embrace Bixby in the future too, as third party developers will begin to create services to connect to them.

It is not entirely clear what to expect or what it will look like Samsung offered Bixby an offer to take the different interfaces you need to book a hotel stay
but Samsung promises to make Bixby so open that developers can do anything Samsung can do.

"It's the most powerful toolkit ever," says Dag Kitlaus, chief executive of Viv Labs, owned by Samsung.

"In front of other young people," Keitelos says. "It's not so close."

Samsung also plans to launch Bixby in several new languages in the coming months, including German, Italian and French.

Spain will also be launched locally for Spain and English translated into the United Kingdom; these languages are already available, but only with the United States.

Smart assistants as a whole are not all smart, but Bixby in particular is among the weakest.

Was criticized at launch, and some new Samsung phone owners still complain about a custom Bixby button they can not redraw.

Samsung is moving faster - much faster than Apple, for example - to build what Bixby can do by giving deep access to third parties.

It is not clear how these third party Bixby features will be distributed or how they will ensure they are safe and efficient.

But if successful, Bexby may begin to look for a lot like Alexa, which has more than 50,000 of third-party skills.
